Sir Nigel Gresley was chosen to haul the Stephenson Locomotive Society's special from King's Cross to Doncaster and back on 23rd May 1959. On the return trip it attained 112 mph descending Stoke bank - setting the post-war record for steam traction. It is shown in the condition it made this run.
