THE OVERHAUL PICTURE

The Overhaul PictureThe Overhaul Picture is now in stock and available to order for delivery or from SNGLT sales tables at upcoming events.

Seldom has there ever been a book like this - and what a breath of fresh air it is. Eschewing the traditional recounting of Sir Nigel Gresley's history, The Overhaul Picture instead focuses on Nº60007's 2015-2022 overhaul, from the moment it was first dismantled through to its launch in wartime black as Nº4498 and inaugural railtour. It is a unique blend of stunning photographs (professionally captured by a skilled lensman who has had unparalleled access to the 'A4'), detailed engineering synopses and wonderful personal anecdotes from the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust team, so it is as much about the people as the machine to which they are devoted. I may be biased as I do make a small appearance, having played a very minor role in 'Number Seven's' return to steam, but this is an astonishingly comprehensive, informative, and entertaining record of Sir Nigel Gresley's overhaul for both current and future generations. A highly recommended read.

It's all there, the full six plus years in Trevor's words and images. It showcases the people from all walks of life who joined a very small group of existing volunteers to become a dedicated team who together delivered their unbelievable dream under the skilled guidance of Locomotive Engineer (Darrin Crone) and Chief Mechanical Engineer (Richard Swales). Trevor's approach to the subject means you don't need to be a railway or steam enthusiast or an engineer to enjoy the book because he details the human story of achievement against all the odds. This chronological record of activity has been created by an outstanding photographer who thankfully answered a very special "Ping" on Christmas Eve 2015. Yes really! Read all about the ups and downs and feel part of the Engineering Team that ensured 4498/60007 returned to the main line as the only operational Gresley A4 Pacific in the world in 2022.
