The "007 Gang" of the Junior Volunteers Scheme provides volunteering opportunities for young members, aged 13 to 16 (see note below) who are keen to learn more about the operation of Sir Nigel Gresley. The scheme is focused on introducing young volunteers to the engineering and leadership skills necessary to maintain our locomotive in the 21st century and beyond. Work is often dirty and tiring but also rewarding and enjoyable.

The "007 Gang" meets once or twice a month on a Saturday. The members can also take part in the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) (membership required) wherever NELPG's Locomotives may be located and the NYMR Junior Volunteers on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway if they are NYMR members.

The location of each "007 Gang" meet may vary depending on the location of 60007 at the time; typical locations are the National Railway Museum workshop in York or the North Yorkshire Moors Railway depot at Grosmont. Safety training will be given when joining the group. Members will be expected to bring appropriate workshop clothing including safety footwear and overalls but other safety equipment will be provided as necessary.

Please note that there may be a waiting list for joining the group.
